Lake Leitisvatn (or Sørvágsvatn) is the host of the most popular hiking trail in the Faroe Islands. Tourists flock to the edge of the lake to see the optical illusion created by the cliffs of Trælanípan with Lake Leitisvatn appearing to be floating above the ocean. But the area has much more to offer than just this iconic view and I wanted.

Lake Leitisvatn also known as Sørvágsvatn lies in the Faroe Islands. The lake has an area of 3.6 square kilometres. This is the famous lake that will create an optical illusion when seen from the cliff Trælanípa. Widely known as the Floating Lake, the scenery here is truly unbelievable.

The lake Leitisvatn is the largest lake in the Faroe Islands stretching 6 km from one end to the other. The lake is just beside Vagar airport. Leitisvatn is the largest lake in the Faroe Islands, and is famous for having the appearance that it's hanging over the ocean. It is a simple hike that should take no more than an hour to get from the trailhead to the iconic view from up on the far cliff. The trailhead starts near the town of Midvagur on the island of Vagar.

I visited Faroe Islands for 10 days and I saw hurricane wind, snow, rain, sun, etc While I was walking towards lake there was a snow going on for 5 minutes, then sky opened and it was sunny for 20 minutes, once I climbed on the hill it started raining again (talking about luck lol)

At the end of Lake Leitisvatn, Bøsdalafossur dramatically falls 35 metres directly into the open Atlantic Ocean, surrounded by high promontories and the free standing rock Geituskoradrangur. This view was just as breathtaking as the other one.
